I began my research on church growth patterns in 1992/93 and had to develop my own tools, since I was unable to find any. This page describes the tools I developed.

The church is many things: a religious institution, the Body of Christ, a community of the redeemed, an organization, a center for ministry, etc. My analysis of church growth takes a primarily sociological look at things, since there is no real way to measure spirituality.

The goal is to find tools that can help distinguish healthy, growing churches from ones in decline - and discover some of the reasons behind that.

I am very fortunate that the Reformed Church in America (RCA) has been keeping detailed membership statistics for two centuries now, while the Christian Reformed Church (CRC) has done so since 1880, so I have lots of good data from which to build my models.
